Abstract

Parents are extremely involved in the lives of their college students. Research has explored how parenting style affects college student success such as academic achievement, transition, and wellness. Grit, defined as passion and perseverance for long-term goals, has been linked to college student success; however, little research investigates the relationship between parenting style and college student grit. This paper details the creation of an instrument that measured the relationship between parenting style and grit. Early results of the instrument demonstrated significant relationships between certain parenting styles and grit.
