This is a copy of my presentation for the panel, To Protect and Connect: Strategic Stewardship of Cultural Heritage Material in the Archives at the 2013's Society of American Archivists Annual Meeting at New Orleans, LA.

Abstract

What is the role and responsibility of the archives when considering giving access to potentially controversial material? How cultural sensitivity can serve as a framework to balance access to material that may hurt the feeling of individuals or groups? These are some of the questions addressed in this presentation where I discussed my experience working with cultural property and cultural heritage materials at UConn Archives & Special Collections.
